Our President has been getting a lot of feedback regarding his decision to appoint celebrities as part of his administration, but Communications Secretary Martin Andanar asked if we, as the people, can respect Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s “presidential prerogative” in choosing who he wants to help govern the country.
The most recent appointment that people are talking about is singer Freddie Aguilar who was said to be the incoming chair for the National Commission on Culture and the Arts (NCCA). Before that it was also singer Jimmy Bondoc and comedian Arnel Ignacio who were both appointed to Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. (PAGCOR), and lastly, it was TV host Kat De Castro who was named tourism undersecretary.
“If the President wishes to appoint anyone that (he) deems credible, then we leave the wisdom behind those (appointments) to the President. I am sure many of us Filipinos understand what we call presidential prerogative,” said Martin Andanar.
I guess our Communications Secretary has a point—before we go on and criticize, let’s respect the President and his appointed admin members and see how they can make our country better than before. Though we simply can’t forget that Freddie married his 16-year old girlfriend years back, just saying.
